Very Comfortable
Booked for 2 couples and both rooms were large, airy, warm and comfortable. Would have liked a bath after climbing Snowdon but the hotel does not have any, contrary to what advertises (please get it right!). Ate dinner in the bar area, which was fine. Had to pre-order breakfast the evening before, which isn\'t ideal but understand as there were not many guests this time of year. However the breakfast was really good, plenty of fruit and cereals, followed by a very tasty cooked breakfast, served by a very attentive lady. Parts of the hotel are very old-fashioned and tired e.g the staircase approach to rooms, but I think it is being done up bit by bit and the areas that have been modernised look really good, as do the rooms (5 and 7 in our case). The view overlooking the gardens from rooms was lovely but it is on the main A5 so quite noisy first thing. All in all a great stay and would return.

Interesting Hotel
Spent two day at this hotel I found on-line and was very pleased with my choice. The hotel was clean and comfortable; the parking was really handy and the staff very friendly and extremely helpful. I ate a couple of the best breakfasts I have ever experienced in hotels, and I mean good. Freshly cooked and plentiful. Having stayed in four and five star hotels for years I can honestly say friendliness and good cooking beats decor every time. Enjoyed my stay; thank you.

It was near perfect, highly recommend. Staff were wonderful, breakfast superb. Scrupulously clean room. Only suggestions..put a foam or similar overlay on the mattress in room 18 and and extra pillow. If you don\'t handle stairs very well, ensure you request a room on ground or just one level up. Fabulous establishment.

Friendly Hotel
Comfortable room with spacious shower cubical and wardrobe space. Unfortunately shower was faulty and positioned too high to make it a \"happy experience\" which was a shame as that was the only thing which let it down otherwise it would get a 5 *. Good Location
The hotel is very well located. Staff are pleasant and helpful, we felt very welcome. The hotel is clean, breakfast is good value for money with staff serving it (nice touch!). The double bedrooms were of a good size and well appointed. The single was disappointing in comparison and felt like the short straw of the lot: cleaning products left on toilet, no showerhead in bath. Bed tucked in corner and a hot room. Everything else in our stay was perfect.

stayed one night with 2 children in family room. first impressions, nice hotel and friendly reception.after being in the room for less than 30 mins a note was pushed under the door explaining a boiler breakdown and that there would be no hot water for 2 days, sorry for any inconvenience. we paid £150 for a room with hot water,an essential we would of thought in a town at the heart of walking and climbing. we had just spent the day on a long hard climb up Snowdon so was in much need of a hot shower. There was no mention of a discount which we thought should have been automatic, we had to ask when checking out and only had £15 pounds knocked off.very disappointing

We had walked past this hotel a few times before; earlier in the year & thought we\'d give it a try as our normal hotel had gone downhill. I am so glad we did, a lovely clean hotel with such lovely, friendly staff who cannot do enough for you. It was a good base for the centre of Betws Y Coed & all the weekend celebrations & shops. Our room was clean, warm & spacious with all the facilities tou would expect. We had a problem with the heating on arrival & they sorted it quickly; without fuss. We ate at the hotel for the 3 nights we stayed & couldnt fault it & loved sitting cosily by the log burners. Our only bug bear was the squeaky door on the landing however, this is a very minor fault. We will definately be returning in the New Year.

Weekend In Wales
Ideal location in the heart of the town, close to craft centre, pubs and places to eat.
Comfortable spacious double room which looked recently decorated. Would have been handy to have a small table to accompany bedside wicker chairs as there was no shortage of space to accommodate one. Also the addition of a shelf in shower would be useful as there was not even a soap tray in which to put shower gel whilst washing. Perhaps some artificial flowers in bathroom also to add colour and warmth or below fireplace to add a homely welcome. Also there wasn\'t any complimentary pen which is always helpful if you have left your own biro at home.
Breakfast good apart from bacon which overcooked and so rather tough. lovely decor however in dining room and comfortable seating.

The Gwydyr Hotel is in the middle of Betws-y-Coed so really convenient for restaurants, shops and the Tourist Information. Our room was basic but clean and the towels were changed daily (unnecessary), however a shelf and bin in the bathroom would have been appreciated. Unbeknown to me, I booked room only so breakfast was an additional cost; it was mediocre but we did enjoy our snack lunch of soup and pate. Pleasantly Surprised
With our 12 day Swiss tour cancelled unexpectedly I decided with the 20 days left before our autumn break to book 10 days in Wales with 4 of them at The Gwydyr Hotel. We had a great time, decent food and drink and great company! Thanks to Keith (Manager) Sharron (Doris) Kyle and Adam who were all very friendly and made things much more enjoyable the owners should be glad of you. There are continuing renovations taking place but ours was a nice quiet room, and good shower/bathroom
Breakfast is served in the hotel’s restaurant, but for those with dogs the hotel are happy to serve you in the bar area along with your dogs, Two real ale casks on tap.
We spent around £580 which included Bed Breakfast and evening meal with starters a bottle of reasonable wine plus pre and post meal drinks and I would say that those of you who want to compare The Gwydyr Hotel with hotels providing Tables D\'Hotes menu Oak smoked duck starters, pan fried sea trout supreme and Chocolate Mousse presented in a Brandy Snap Basket with a Blue Berry Compote then fine but expect to pay £900 plus, not £580.
In conclusion I will say ‘Yes we do and will go to better hotels’ (More Stars)but we will also go back to ‘The Gwydyr Hotel’ because we like it.

Lovely Stay
We all had a lovely 3 night stay at Gwdyr for my 50th birthday. We had 3 rooms, twin, king size with garden view and a double. The description of our king size was slightly misleading with the title \'garden view\' as the garden was actually over he busy road whereas I thought it would be a nice quiet room! Unfortunately the double was over the kitchen and as such was absolutely boiling hot. My daughter did open her window wide but while the kitchen was in operation then the noises from the prep and the smells from the kitchen vents came through, so I would strongly recommend a quality, quiet air con unit in there. HOWEVER, getting that out of the way.....all the staff were charming, the bedding and towels etc spotless, showers good, beds comfortable and the rooms very nicely decorated. Plus the cooked breakfast was very, very good. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. Thank you

Nice Hotel Problem With Link With
Hotel was friendly, clean and nice with good sized rooms and nice bathrooms. Problem was with the booking completed on the internet as we didn\'t have the rooms we specified - one double and one twin. We were given the correct rooms but as if the hotel was doing us a favour rather than agreeing with the booking. We were then charged the wrong rate when checking out £50 more expensive but luckily I had the email confirming the price so they reinvoiced us. Dogs very welcome which is lovely and a very nice atmosphere. Thank you for a good stay but shame about the admin errors.

Dog Friendly
Lovely clean rooms, very dog friendly including separate eating areas that you can take you dog to for breakfast and dinner. Friendly staff and not over priced for food or drink. Nb. If England are playing Wales and you are English the bar area with a large screen becomes rowdy and a bit hostile from the natives. Very close to Snowdon and Betws y Coed is a nice place to stay.

Perfect Stay For Everything You Need
Myself and my girlfriend found this the perfect perfect place to stay in the heart of the town. A short walk to shops, restaurants and train station and yards from the town green. Our room was larger than I expected with a large recently refurbished shower room. We were in room 21 which was situated at the end of the hallway so no other guests walking past which helped with it being quiet. Breakfast was very good value with good quality food and the breakfast room area was spacious and smartly furnished. All of the staff during our 3 night stay could not have been more pleasant or accommodating, they are a credit to the hotel. Free car parking at the rear too which felt a safe place to leave your vehicle as well lit in the evening. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit.

Recent Stay At The Gwydyr
We enjoyed our stay very much. We ate one evening meal which was good and breaakfast every day was most enjoyable, the bacon especially was very well cooked. Our room on the top floor was a little cramped and with only a small opening window a bit humid on a night. Also as it was raining on the first night we became aware of the rain dripping on to the corrugated roof below us, but luckily it stayed dry at night for the rest of our stay. The staff were very pleasant and we would stay again, probably in a different room.

Friendly And Welcoming - Sports Fans Favourite
Positives - great location, lovely friendly staff, excellent breakfast, room size fantastic.
Neutrals - Fit out to bedroom and en-suite a bit \'cheaply\' done and hotel seemed a little bit \'tired\', though decorated areas like dining room were very nice.
Negatives - No actual reception, just the bar and entrance through TV \'function room\' from back of hotel is a bit unwelcoming! Odd smells - do check the airfreshener in the room which seemed to smell like stale biscuits!?

Overall: Excellent venue if you wanted to watch sports on a big screen with a big crowd in a bar and lovely staff...perhaps not ideal if you wanted a high quality feel or a quiet romantic break away, unless you picked a weekend with no sports!

A Good Stay
Arrived late on a Friday evening having climbed mount Snowdon earlier in the day. Me and my friends (all 20 years old) were greated at the bar area by what I can only assume to be the Manager. He has a great attitude and was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed.
Was shown up to the room which was good, had all the basics, good shower, TV etc. I had specifically asked for 3 beds which was catered for with no problems.
Later that evening came down for a beer (or two) and some food. Great choice of beer, ales and wines. The food was also of a good variety however I did feel this was slightly lacking quality which didn\'t reflect the overall feel of the hotel. But hey, it wasn\'t overpriced.
The manager then came over and asked if we wanted to watch the football, to our surprise he put on the huge projector and there we sat watching the football - happy days! Other guests didn\'t seem to mind this as they joined in and there were plenty of places to sit!
Overall, a great stay. Would definitely recommend!

We stayed for two nights in family room. It was not a very big room but for the price I was paying it was perfectly acceptable. Everything was very clean. The internet worked very well and my two children loved the room. We felt very welcome, and it seemed everyone had their dog with them so us having our dog was fine: he sat with us for dinner and breakfast which was nice. The staff were friendly, and for dinner our kids both wanted something not on the menu and the staff made it for them, which was most kind. Recommended, especially if you have a dog.

Could Have Been Better...
One night stay only, but to be honest if we\'d been in Betws longer we\'d have been looking for somewhere else after the first night....on the plus side, the staff were really friendly, the hotel is in a great location and breakfast the following morning was very tasty and freshly cooked.
On the negative side - there was a party going on the night we were there which finished about midnight. Music v. loud and kept us awake. The guests using the room next to ours were also very noisy, and lack of decent soundproofing meant we could hear not much sleep ! Rooms are badly in need of updating, and ours hadn\'t been properly cleaned. Breakfast policy means that you have to order the night before - first time I\'ve ever had to do this - and TBH I think £85 a night for a double room with breakfast out of season is on the high side.

Service Was Great!
We stayed here for one night over August bank holiday - on spec. This wasn\'t a planned stay, but we were pleasantly surprised.

What stood out most was the level of service - everyone working at the hotel were polite, pleasant and couldn\'t do enough.

The bedroom and en-suite were simple and clean - nothing spectacular, but couldn\'t fault.

Breakfast was lovely.

One Week Annual Visit
When I previously visited two years ago, having missed last year due to the passing of my Father, Dawn & Rob had just taken over the lovely but tired Gwydyr Hotel. I found a much improved property buzzing with contented patrons. The food was simple but excellently cooked. I would recommend the starter mango prawns and the dessert: warmed bakewell tart & custard. The staff were efficient and clearly happy in their work. I look forward to next year\'s stay which is already booked.

Gwrdr Hotel Review
About what I expected. There was a good sized bedroom with 2 armchairs close to the window where we could sit and read and watch it rain. Situated near the road the room did pick up traffic noise at night and if returning I would request a room at the rear. The bed was creaky but comfortable and the bathroom fully functional.

I didn\'t like the breakfast policy - there was a choice of full English at a price of £7.50 or continental at £5.50 so if you just wanted beans on toast or a boiled egg you\'d be paying £7.50 for it which most guests would not do. As a consequence my wife and I had fruit for breakfast and eat a main meal at lunchtime when we were out and had a snack in the evening so didn\'t get to try out the restaurant.

Staff were friendly and efficient.

Disappointed With Rooms At Gwydyr Hotel
Myself, my wife and 4 friends stayed in 3 double rooms for 2 nights, 29 & 30 August. The standard of the rooms were disappointing and not as portrayed on the website. Service and staff was satisfactoy and the breakfasts were very good. However, there were a few disappointing factors that we\'d like to bring to your attention:
Room 3 had old ill fitting windows and no double glazing so the traffic noise was unbearable and we struggled to sleep both nights. The double bed although queen sized was hard and uncomfortable. The shower was pathetic and only trickled water which took 20 mins to regulate to a desired temperature. The bathroom in general looked tired, with stained and damaged lino and cracked tiles and sealer. In rooms 16 and 19 where the rest of our party stayed, both rooms on entry had a strong smell of bleach. There was unhygienic carpet fitted round the toilet bases which smelt of urine. Maybe that\'s why the high strength bleach was used to mask the odour? Both rooms again looked run down with a mis-match decor and not worthy of the tariff. I understand that the hotel is currently under re-furbishment and that the downstairs rooms have been upgraded, unfortunatley we were unlucky with our visit and were given the upstairs rooms. This really should have been reflected in the price and the rooms were way over priced at £80 per night. It\'s a shame our stay wasn\'t as enjoyable as we\'d hoped at Gwydyr Hotel as Betws-y-Coed is a beautiful place.

Good Personal Service But In Need Of Travel Cots!
Very personable support from the staff at this hotel. When we found out that they did not have a travel cot in the hotel we were moved to a bigger family room so our 8-month old son could stay in the double bed with us. The staff were also very knowledgeable about places to eat and things to do in Betws. We probably wont go to this hotel again given other options in Snowdonia but I would still consider it a decent place to stay for any travellers.

The Perfect Stay
This hotel was one of the best we have stayed in. Excellent staff combined with superb service a very comfortable room and top quality food. Particularly important to us was the facility to take our dog with us. Unlike many establishments where pet friendly means mean pet tolerant, the Gwydyr is genuinely pet friendly. This added to our stay and made the whole time a really relaxing occasion. Now if they could just fix Welsh weather.....!

The restaurant has a nice menu and we eat there on one evening of our two night stay and thought the food was very good as well as the service from friendly staff.
After having read some contrasting reviews on the rooms due to some being refurbished and some not I was pleased to find our room was one of the refurbished ones. Our family room was spacious, beds were comfortable, and the room was clean. Would we stay again? Yes of course, it was a pleasant stay

The Worst Room I\'ve Ever Stayed In
Over the years I\'ve stayed in so many hotels, I\'ve lost count, but the room we stayed in at the Gwydyr Hotel hits number 1 as the worst I\'ve stayed in.

This was the attic room, and words cannot describe the condition of the room:

- Sink falling off the wall (dangerous)
- Poorly fitting carpet, lifting and worn
- Huge cracks in skirting board
- Large cracks in water stained ceiling
- Loose light fittings (and very dated)
- Wardrobe was just MDF board with no door
- Worst bathroom plumbing I\'ve ever seen

I understand that the hotel is going through a process of refurbishment. We did see into a room which had been refurbished, and it did look very nice indeed, but why charge the same for rooms which have been neglected for a number of years. Yes, the photo\'s are of rooms which have been refurbished, so fingers crossed you get one of those rooms, and not any of the attic rooms.

We did report our concerns to the hotel management, only to be told \'well, you can stay somewhere else if you like\', knowing full well the room we were in was of a very poor standard, but just didn\'t seem to care.

The staff who work there are very nice, but I get the impression that management/owners care very little. We were offered 10% off our final bill due to the condition of the room, which was processed by the girl on reception, who didn\'t even has to ask the management if this was OK to do so, so clearly this is given to anyone who complains about the attic rooms.

We loved our trip to Wales, but sadly hated the hotel - 1 out of 5.

Response from Accommodation
I\\\'m sorry that you did not enjoy your stay at the Gwydyr Hotel and I understand your concern regarding the pricing, however we charged the same price this year for all rooms as we were unsure how many rooms would be completed 12 months out from when we had to set our pricing structure. Next season the newly refurbished rooms will be charged in line with all the central hotels in Betws y Coed at £105-150 per room per night depending on size and layout. As owner managers living on site, we really do care about our business and that is why we left the rooms at £70.00 per night so that anyone comparing hotel for hotel could see that ours was substantially cheaper with good reason. Shannon our receptionist is our daytime duty manager, who covers my days off so has been trained to use her discretion and initiative when dealing with customer comments/complaints. Thank you for complimenting our young team, we work hard on training to ensure a great overall experience, however once again, I\\\'m sorry you hated this hotel.

Very Accommodating Stay!!
I\'ve just come back from our 4 night stay in Betws y Coed. We stayed at the Gwydyr Hotel. I have been to Snowdonia many times and usually stay in bunkhouses and campsites. This was my first time in a hotel there. Some bunkhouses in the area are charging hotel prices so with its central location in Betws this seemed a great choice as we were staying as a family. The hotel was extremely accommodating and were happy for my partner and i and our daughter to stay in the same room with our labrador Brody!! The hotel staff were helpful and friendly throughout our stay. We didn\'t have breakfast included in our tariff... so adding that to our costs or eating out each morning added to our stay but all considered it was great. The room was fairly basic and no frills but it was clean and comfortable and considering how flexible they hotel were regarding us all staying in one room and the reasonable price, I\'m a pretty happy customer!

Being aware of a major refurbishment taking place I will not comment on the decor, however the brand new bathroom was not good. The shower had no power the fitments were loose, no towel rails and the sink so small the kettle couldn\'t be filled. That being a minor thing because the warm welcome from the staff and their attentiveness was brilliant. The food was excellent and the atmosphere in the hotel was warm and very welcoming. Relaing Break
This was our first stay not only at the hotel but in the area. We were blown away by the natural beauty of the area & loved the chilled vibe. The Gwydyr hotel was excellent, it was like staying with family but ones you actually liked. The room was very clean with a comfy bed & nice bathroom. The freshly cooked to order breakfast was delicious as were the evening meals, the Eton mess was to die for! The hubby was happy the footie was on in the main bar but I loved the fact there were a couple of smaller, quieter areas where we sat & played dominoes & enjoyed a drink. Every single staff member went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our stay & were very helpful with information about the area & places to see. Beth\'s-y-coed really is a gateway to snowdonia & even for novice hikers like ourselves, we found the hike to swallow falls a really nice, pleasant walk. The surrounding Forrest are stunning. We loved our stay & will defiantly be returning. We have stayed in many top hotels & this one was up there with the best & is now one of our favourites.

Welcoming But Still Being Renovated
We were late arriving and the host waited up for us to show us our room, which was appreciated. The room was clean but very tired looking with no pictures. The bathroom had a strip light and was also in need of updating - there was only one hook for all the towels. The corridors and stairs were tired looking too, with trailing cables and worn and mismatching carpets. Breakfast was fine, but it would have been nice if it was included in the price of the room. We didn\'t eat in the restaurant but used the bar. The downstairs rooms are nicely decorated and inviting. I think it will be a lovely hotel once completely renovated but some rooms are still lacking at the moment.

Lovely Hotel, Great Staff, Great Food
6 of us stayed over the bank holiday weekend. Great base for Snowdon and Zip and lovely area? Really enjoyed our stay. The rooms were great, as was the food. Loved the separate lounges. Nice warm welcome when we arrived (sorry we didn\'t get your name to mention you personally) Special mention to Michael? the Bar man.. What a really nice chap.. Will definitely return.

Fantastic Stay
After doing the three peaks, this family run hotel was perfect for a group of 9. The staff where fantastic in catering for us all, they even made my brother a birthday cake when they found out it was his birthday for no extra cost. I would not use another when i go back to Betws-y-Coed.

Fantasric Stay
After completing the Three Peaks Challenge all we wanted was a comfy bed, good food and a beer. Dawn and her wonderful staff provided all that and then some. We were made to feel so welcome, the food was fantastic and great value, and as for the beer, well lets just say we carried out a rigorous inspection ! lovely people, lovely location will definitely return and happy to recommend.

Great Place - Really Enjoyed The Stay
We stayed at the Gwydyr about 5 years ago, and it was pretty poor. We found out that it had changed hands, so decided to try it again. What a difference! It\'s still in the process of being refurbished, I gather, but the bar and eating areas are already great, and our room was clean, spacious and confortable. Very recommended, and thanks for having us - we\'ll be back!

Great Base For Snowdon Walk
3 adults shared a family room, which made it a very cost effective and comfortable base for a days walking up Snowdon.
The full English breakfast was very hearty and provided good fuel for the walk.

Excellent Location, Clean Spacious Family Room
As the title suggests we were happy with the room, the staff, the location and to top it off when we accidentally left my daughters toy rabbit behind the helpful staff located it and sent it back straight away for which we are very grateful especially my daughter.

Lovely Hotel.
We traveled to betws y coed for a family wedding and spent 2 nights at the Gwydyr hotel.

The hotel is beautiful and clean. The staff were extremely helpful and couldn\'t do enough for us. They were very welcoming to our children also which was nice as we had found it difficult to find a hotel to accommodate young children. (Ours are 2 and 4).

Easter Sunday.!
Even thou i only live in Caernarfon, often visit Betws-y-coed for an afternoon visit, we decided to spend Eater Sunday as an overnight stay.Very welcoming, easy to check in and was given room no 7,very spacious, refubished, tastefully
decorated doublesized room, which overlooked the main road, with a pleasant view, not at all noisy.! we had a pleasant walk in and around the village, and on returning to the hotel, early evening,a nightcap, and a decent nights sleep.even thou the room was above the main bar,it wasnt noisy at all,you would of never known, there was other guests staying there..
Even thou,we only had *room only*, we could of had breakfast the next morning, but want to get up and make our way back to caernarfon, there was no rush to check out, 10.30 at the latest.
The room was lovely, just a couple of hiccups, nothing major.! the kettle, tea and coffee falicities could be better placed, prefabaly on a tray of somesort, near to a reachable socket.!(next time, i might take an extension, but it was no problem, also, there was no waste bin in the room, lucky i had a plastic waste bag, which i used(there was one in the bathroom) The bathroom was lovely, no bath, just a shower..a shelf could of come in handy above the sink, but it was no big deal, placing our toiletries nearby on the window ledge.!
Overall, a lovely room, with a lovely view, a decent night sleep and a lovely welcome from the girls who work there..
will definatly come and vist again and will recommend to our friends... thankyou :-)

Pleasantly Surprised
Our room was clean and the bed comfortable but on the second floor so awaiting refurbishment.
On the negative side, the shower was weak and changed temperature, the flooring was torn and didn\'t fit properly, the window wad draughty and didn\'t limit the outside noise.
On the positive side, the staff were great. Very helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was very good ( belly pork and lamb shank) again with great service. The location is good for exploring north Wales. We would stay here again and will be interested to see it when the refurbishment is complete.

Lovely Hotel With Amazing Staff
We stayed for two night at the Gwydyr Hotel with our dog. We had a great welcome and were impressed with the communal parts of the hotel.

We were a little disappointed with our room as it was a little worn around the edges, but the welcome pack explained that the hotel was being done up carefully one room at a time.

On the first evening we ate at the hotel and our dog was able to sit in front of the fire with us. The food was delicious - fresh and cooked to order! We also had breakfast there which was again made to order, and also catered for different dietary needs.

Overall we will definitely be staying here again. The staff are lovely and very helpful. I did ask about our room and were told to ask for a refurbished room next time we stay, which I am already looking forward too.

I would highly recommend this hotel for a stay in North Wales.
