Nice And Clean Room In Beautiful Landscape, Great Hospitality
We stayed for two nights and would definitely recommend to stay here. Cosy, very clean and modernized room on the river side. Great to spend some calm days. We directly started a hiking tour from the B&B. In the evening we enjoyed the food in the pub. We always felt welcomed and enjoyed great hospitality.

Superb Stay In Our Favourite Area
This is the second time we have stayed at The Rockford Inn and so much enjoyed it, as much as the first time if not more. The food was excellent as was the Ale and very friendly service too. WE enjoy a good walk and on a cold Monday morning in January set off on a circular 20 mile walk including part of the reputed Lorna Doone area of Exmoor. The walk was superb even in the cold and sometimes foggy places on top of the hills, but returning to The Rockford Inn with that fire going and a great pint of Ale was just the ticket. We can\'t thank you and all the staff enough for looking after us so well on our stay and we look forward to returning.

We have just returned from our 3rd stay with the current owners of the lovely Rockford Inn. Cathryn and Sarah have transformed the upstairs into boutique bedrooms whilst keeping the amazing character of the public areas thus providing the best of both worlds.
The food is expertly cooked by Sarah, I had to take a photo of the mozzarella and tomato starter as it was a work of art! and her homemade pies are delicious.
Cathryn is so friendly and attentive, nothing is too much trouble and her energy is relentless.

An Excellent Stay At The Rockford Inn
We have stopped at the Rockford Inn on a few occasions when walking the moors of Exmoor and always promised ourselves a stay - we were not disappointed. Just before Christmas we took advantage of the peace and quiet of this great traditional inn. Run by wonderful people, friendly, accommodating and excellent food and beer. Idyllic
My wife and I are fairly frequent visitors to Exmoor. Beforehand, we had always camped. On trips to Doone Valley we would stop at the Rockford Inn for refreshments. We kept promising each other that one day we would stay at this idyllic spot. We both had milestone birthdays in 2016 so decided to treat ourselves to something more luxurious than camping. As anticipation built, I became concerned I may have idealised things a little too much. However, our brief holiday at The Rockford Inn did not disappoint in any way. The Inn, food, drink (especially the local gin), hospitality and walk along the river to Lynmouth were all superb.

Lovely Cosy Home From Home
Having visited The Rockford Inn several times previously for drinks after walks/days out, we decided to take a room and stay over the Christmas period to do a few longer coastal routes. Everything was just lovely, from the warm welcome and faultless service, to the cosy (and spotless) room, fantastic dinner and great breakfast. Just what we were looking for after a long drive to walk in and see bar full of real ale and a real fire not to mention the fantastic pizza. A Lovely Inn In An Unusual Location
Spent two nights to celebrate a special birthday in this friendly and welcoming inn where nothing was too much trouble for Kathryn and Sarah. Bedrooms had everything you needed including iron, hairdryer and lotions. Food was excellent and a delicious cream tea was provided for 12 of us on the morning of the birthday. Wonderful walks around especially the one to Lynmouth via Watersmeet. Some of our party enjoyed the cold water of the deep pools in the river. Was far far better than our expectations and we hope to return.

North Devon Gem
Our 5th stay at Rockford. From the moment you arrive at it\'s fantastic location on the river lyn you are greeted by the Cathryn and Sarah, who always treat us like we are the only guests. They have the balance spot on, being professional and providing exceptional service but also giving guests their own space and time just to enjoy the wonderful ambience.

The rooms are perfect, most with river views and all ensuite. With all mod cons.

The food!!! Well Sarah does a majority of the cooking. Great menu using local produce. All freshly prepared and cooked and presented to a very high standard.

All the menu is tempting. My favourite has to be the home made pies and the steaks. These are a must try during your stay.

If you are lucky enough to stay on a Thursday night they have a curry evening. It\'s a must book. The chicken madras was superb.

Dont eat here expecting not to add a few Lbs.

The location is ideal. Only short hop to the river. I fished for 5 days. Plenty of salmon and trout . Had several trout but unfortunately the salmon didnt like my spinners. So have to try again next year.

A great array of walks. Most incorporate river views. Watersmeet is a must for a coffee. A 45 minute easy stroll. Further down is Lynmouth. You do need to do some walking to burn some calories after the wonderful food.

Breakfast is a great way to start the day. Again all freshly cooked and they are very flexible on variations to the usual full monty.

I can\'t recommend the Rockford Inn highly enough. It\'s the holiday break I truly relax and never want to leave.

Thank you Cathryn and Sarah for yet another memorable stay. Also we looking forward to the steak and ale pies you provided as a takeaway when we checked out yesterday.

So folks dont just read my brief review. Sample it for yourselves and BOOK IT.

Thanks Daryl and Hazel.

Warm Welcome
Having stayed at the Rockford Inn before, it was nice to see that nothing had changed. The warm welcome is genuine, and a relaxed ambience makes you feel at home straight away. The rooms are clean and have everything you would need, complimentary soaps, endless tea/coffee/ chocolate supplies and showers that work! As a lover of real ales, having the beers served directly from the barrels is always a plus. The food is mostly prepared on the premises, using quality local ingredients, the speciality being the home-cooked pies, but the wide ranging menu will have something for everyone. The location is idyllic, with the East Lyn river running just outside and there are many walks you can do from the Inn, onto the moors or along the river. We intend to keep returning for weekend breaks from which to explore this lovely corner of the West country.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Rockford Inn. We arrived a little earlier than planned but this presented no problem. The bed was extremely comfortable and we both slept like logs, with the sound of the river lulling us off to sleep. Dinner was superb and the breakfast were fantastic, plenty to fill us up before heading out on some of the beautiful walks nearby. Overall, a lovely experience and would not hesitate to book again. We like secluded and secluded is what we got in a lovely location What can we say about the pub/hotel
Everything from the moment we walked in to the moment we left was 5 star
don\'t stay there if you want to remain thin as the home cooked food was out of this world--- the home made pies should be on mail order or in one of the local shops
the owners and the staff were always polite and friendly and always asked if there was anything else they could do.

point is finding a room as it is such a great place to stay

Never Disappoints
I have just returned from a few days with my family with the excuse of fishing in the river opposite the Rockford. In actual fact we spent most of our time relaxing between Sarah\'s beautiful meals (venison pan fried with wild blackberry sauce was fab!) served by the delightful Cathryn, and enjoying the delights of the local ale and cider.

This was my second visit to the Rockford and it certainly did not disappoint in any way. The Inn is pitched just right, excellent rooms, food and service but not unfriendly or pretentious (quite the opposite). Cathryn and Sarah\'s team are also key to the success of the Rockford; their smiling welcome is all part of the magic. Nothing is ever too much trouble.

I/we will certainly be going back to the Rockford. The fish in the river are all safe and well by the way.

Thank you

A Hidden Gem
Have just returned from a short walking break staying at the Rockford which is situated in a beautiful hideaway valley made special by the water tumbling through. Mine hosts Sarah and Catherine were both welcoming and went the extra bit to make you feel at home. They have invested considerably in the property to bring the rooms up-to-date and provide the comfortable
modern amenities that you expect. Our shower room was on the small side, but perfectly adequate, and my only gripe would be there is nowhere to put toiletries here.
Everywhere was spotlessly clean and we found the beds very comfortable and adequate heating provided. The food is quite a feature of this establishment with locally provided meat and game, and you won\'t go hungry!!
As the Inn is situated in quite an isolated
spot, we did eat there the three evenings,
but the menu was varied enough for us to make different choices.
We enjoyed our stay here and would thoroughly recommend it. Keep up the excellent work Sarah and Catherine.

Perfect Location
We spent two nights at the Rockford Inn which is hidden away in a wooded Devon valley. It is set next to the East Lyn river perfectly quiet and peaceful. Although the weather had turned cold there was a welcoming woodstove heating the bar. All the staff were friendly and welcoming and happy to advise on the area. Our room was no 1 which overlooks the river and was bright, modern, comfortable and spacious with ensuite facilities. Lovely to awake to the sound of birdsong and no cars!

The food was excellent and plentiful using locally sourced ingredients. There was a good range of choices on the menu.

As it is a relaxed place the other guests were happy to talk and exchange information on where to go - the walk down to Lynmouth via Watersmeet then along the coast path and back over Countisbury hill is beautiful in the Spring.

A lovely place to stay.

The service is amazing, as is the food. I highly recommend the salt and pepper squid...and a pie. Beautifully cooked and now I am writing I could eat it right now! Sarah and Kathryn cannot do enough for you. Even when very busy the service is outstanding.
One of my simple pleasures is to fall asleep to the sound of the River Lyn, and we have been lucky enough to have the rooms by the river (I believe most are river side anyway). The rooms are also very nicely done, clean, comfortable and have everything you need.
We will certainly be staying again. I highly recommend the Rockford, whether you\'re just looking to eat it stay.

Can\'t Wait To Go Back!
Thank you Tom, Sarah and Clare plus unseen others for looking after us so well when we came for a few days break on recommendation from my sister who stayed a few weeks ago. We heard that Sarah and Cathryn were on a well deserved holiday but relief managers Tom and Sarah did a first class job in their absence. There was also the ever smiling and friendly Clare pulling together as part of the permanent team.

The food and drink were excellent, the location could not be more perfect and rooms warm and comfortable, what more could you ask for?

We were slightly alarmed to notice the illuminated pub sign outside our window (room 4) but relieved when it switched itself off just after midnight. Above all the Rockford has a wonderfully relaxed and friendly atmosphere which is so important in these days of corporate uniformity and blandness. We felt genuinely welcome. Please don\'t change Rockford Inn!

We will definitely return!

Thank you so much.

If You Like Country Inns - You Must Stay Here !
The Rockford Inn is set in a deep Exmoor wooded valley, just across a quiet lane from the East Lynn River. My room overlooked this river and you could hear the water rushing down the rocky valley - very relaxing. My room had a very comfortable bed and all the facilities I needed.
Another big bonus if you stay here are the really friendly, polite and helpful staff - congratulations to you ladies.
The other thing that struck me was whole delicious the food was. My cooked breakfast, and evening meal were both delicious ! Apparently the female owner of the inn is also the chef. All this eating and drinking took place in a really cosy and attractive bar and dining area with lots of olde worlde charm. I can\'t wait to go back ! It\'s really good if you have a car to get to this peaceful spot, but if not, a train to Barnstaple, bus to Lynton, and then a taxi, (or walk !), for the final three miles, will get you there.

We first found the Rockford Inn in Sept 2012 and this is the 4th time we have been back (would have been the fith but could not get in as fully booked in Sept 13). What makes it so special is three things, Cathryn & Sarah\'s warm hospitality, the traditional Country Inn atmosphere and the beautiful location for numerous walks in beautiful Exmoor. The rooms are spotlessly clean, warm, comfy and very, very welcoming whether it\'s been a day of clomping about on Exmoor, shopping in Barnstaple or just generally dossing about, it\'s just great to get back to the Rockford and chill out, with a pint of their very own Rockford Ale sat in front the real log fire. Rockford Inn
You must visit this wonderful tucked away hotel on Exmoor. Everything about it is great. The food, the hospitality, the room, the location and the cask Ales. Whether you are a dedicated walker or 'townies' like us you will enjoy everything on offer in the surrounding area. Not too far to Lyton & Lynmouth, Porlock and Minehead but surrounded by plenty of well maintained footpaths and river walks.

Wonderful establishment, full of charm & character. Wonderful idyllic setting, on the white water river. Hosts Sarah & Cathryn are warm & friendly and nothing is too much trouble.
Food is wonderful - so is the beer !
Everything is spotlessly clean with modern facilities, set in a charming Olde Worlde Inn.
Would strongly recommend staying here - ideal for walkers, or for those wanting to discover Exmoor.

Perfect Getaway
A beautiful location for a well run b & b that gave a welcoming feel of comfort, good service and character, together with a delicious evening meal and breakfast. We really enjoyed our lovely room, bathroom and the little extra touches. Only dislike - a slightly unnerving guest in the bathroom holding the loo paper with his trousers down - didn't seem in keeping with the tasteful room!! Otherwise loved it all. Many thanks.

If you are eating in at night ( highly recommended) a table is reserved for you, The food was fantastic with a good choice on the menu plus specials each night, The tasty breakfast is served in the restaurant/lounge. The owners and staff are very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The location is ideal right beside the East Lyn river with fishing and walks outside the front door. Peaceful and relaxing area with the sound of the river and no mobiles ringing as there is no signal, wifi is availbale at the Rockford. I arrived later than the advised check in time, but that posed no problem and I was greeted with a warm welcome. I stayed in room 3, which is very small, as described on the website, but was very comfortable with a very nice shower room, which appeared to have been done out recently. Their was no room for a chair to sit and read, but there was a comfortable lounge area and seating outside next to the river. The breakfast was excellent and they had a packed lunch ready for me both days too. Everyone was very friendly and helped me with any questions I had which made my weekend away the more enjoyable. Thanks very much. I would definitely stay here again and can recommend the Rockford Inn to others.

The Rockford Inn
A well presented and very friendly run family pub with rooms of a good standard. An ideal place to rest after daily expeditions allowing time to taste real home cooking and local ales and the eggs benedict were top draw.

Fantastic Place
We have just come back from a 6 night stay at the Rockford Inn and can't recommend the place highly enough. If you are looking for a place to relax and get away from it all, you can't do better than this. Fabulous service from Sarah and Cathryn - they can't do enough to help and Sarah produces the most wonderful home cooked food. The Inn is at the bottom of a river valley and it is in the most idyllic location. Gentle strolls just feet from the door and an easy (but steep!) drive to explore Exmoor make it a great base for exploring further.

Rockford Inn - 17 And 18may 2013
We had a lovely stay at the Rockford Inn recently. It is a lovely old inn but the guest rooms have been very nicely renovated. I can thoroughly recommend the deluxe double (room 1) and room 5 which are both at the front of the inn facing the river. Room 5 has a better view of the river but the river is very noisy from here if you sleep with an open window. Open fire in the bar is very welcoming. Lovely choice of breakfast options. Thanks to the two hosts who made us feel very welcome.

Perfection!
Found this amazing Inn on TP and so glad that I stayed here as it is a fabulous place to visit and unwind.

Positives – Everything

The location – in a deep valley by a fast flow river with great walks. Very quiet and hardly any road traffic so you will be guaranteed a good night’s sleep.

Service – absolutely first class. Both of the ladies that run this Inn are very friendly and super-efficient. Great cooks also!

Ambience – roaring fires, cosy, lots of pictures etc. All what you would expect from a cosy country inn

The food – really good choice, very well presented and cooked to perfection. Very good value also considering the quality. A good choice of real ales, whiskies and wine. A lovely full English in the morning. What more would you want….

Accommodation – I stayed in the small single room. Even though I am 6ft4 I had no problems staying in this room. It is tight but there is everything you need . What I liked was the website clearly stated that this was a very small room so I had no problems with it.

Value – excellent. I only paid £87 for my one night which included my accommodation, beers, wine, lovely 3 course meal and breakfast

Negatives – none apart from having to leave so soon as I only stayed one night. Can’t wait to return with the wife and spend a few more nights here soon
